About
Mr James Gill is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in knee problems. As well as working at St Edmunds Hospital he is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust located in Bury St Edmunds. James is passionate about improving function and alleviating pain for patients of all ages afflicted by knee problems. He does this through thorough assessment and designs treatment plans that are tailored to individual patient’s needs.

Special Interests
James Gill’s special surgical interests are knee replacement surgery particularly uni (or partial) knee replacement surgery, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and knee preservation technique such as osteotomy (realignment) and meniscal repair). James is interested in the latest surgical enhanced recovery techniques which means it is often possible for patients undergoing partial knee replacement to go home on the same day as their surgery.

Education and Training
​
James Gill studied medicine at the University of Cambridge, Hughes Hall (2005-2009). He undertook his foundation (2009-2011) and orthopaedic registrar training in the East of England (2005-2021). He completed his fellowship training with Dr Peter Myers and TimMcMeniman at the Brisbane Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine centre in 2022. This is a world-renowned fellowship with exposure to all forms of knee surgery.

Personal
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with friends and family. Along with his wife James shares a passion for swimming, cycling and running and completed a eight ‘Iron’ distance triathlons. Including the Ironman World Age Group Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
